My son has a genetic disorder...it does not have a name...how does a genetic disorder get a name...?
Q. Such as down syndrome. How does a name get put to a genetic disorder? My son has chromosome 1p36 deletion syndrome and it would be nice if it had a name to where people could start understanding what it is. The syndrome has been found since the early 1990's Yeah I run the 1p36 website so I know all about the syndrome...I just wanted to know how to get the syndrome named other than monosomy 1p36.
Asked by Joni D - Sun Sep 3 18:34:02 2006 - Other - Diseases - 9 Answers - Comments
A. Down syndrome was named for John Langdon Down, the first doctor to identify the syndrome. Having a name can be a mixed blessing really, people associate the name "Down" as a negative thing, those of us with children or loved ones feel the impact of that and have to fight hard against a lot of ignorance and just plain meanness to get people to see the positive things about our kids. Name or no name, getting people to understand the condition is a sometimes tough, but very rewarding job. You have to take it one person at a time. You might want to consider starting some form of on-line forum for people touched by the syndrome...there is power in numbers. Good luck and try not to get discouraged. There are a lot of idiots out there… [cont.]

Deletion Appeals?
Q. Does Yahoo! have any intentions of implementing a system so they can respond to appeals? The Religion & Spirituality group has a number of users attacking those of non-christian faiths and there is no way to appeal the deletion. I have appealed numerous times and keep getting the same form letter with no difference but the name on the form letter. I've had questions deleted that were resolved for over a month because apparently someone decided to go through all my questions and report all of them. I had questions that were over a month resolved deleted. Emailing the appeal address is always responded to by a computer generated form letter with a randomly generated name attached. Customer 'Care' my butt. More like Customer Apathy.

A. Yeah, I have had the same thing happen to me several times in the same category. I have appealed and nothing comes of it but that lame form letter. Good luck to you. It sucks not being able to really speak your mind in response to questions that are intended to bait others. I don't curse, threaten, bait, etc. I simply do not agree sometimes. Peace )O(

How do I fix my computer start-up problem?
Q. I was working on cleaning up the computer and the anti-virus software said it wanted to delete a file as it was infected with some virus, so I said "yes" to deletion. The computer then restarted itself and now won't start-up as it gets to the XP loading screen and then restarts again (this just keeps happening over and over). I ridiculously didn't take note of the name of the file that was deleted but I think it had something to do with System32 maybe. I'm not hugely computer literate nor with a lot of money, so I don't want to take it to a store to get it fixed, and I do have people who know more than me about these things (but not enough to fix it!). Please help me!! I forgot to say the following.. * Safe mode won't work either, [cont.]

A. Try to boot into safe mode. If that works, see if your pc is partitioned. Usually manufacturers partition your hard drive and make one a restore partition. Execute that and you should be home free. Also if you have been messing with/deleting Norton or Mc Afee, make sure you know what you are doing. They are notorious for causing glitches in you pc if not removed properly.

How long after a domain name expires can I buy it for myself?
Q. Curiously enough, a domain name I used to own, but let lapse accidentally, was purchased by someone else. They have now let it lapse on 11/29/10. Go Daddy is the registrar, and they say it's pending renewal or deletion. How long do I have to wait until I can buy this domain name back? What's the grace period for renewal?
Asked by Uncle Pennybags - Thu Dec 9 18:48:44 2010 - Other - Internet - 3 Answers - Comments
A. The grace period is the period that is meant to safeguard the owner from losing the domain name. The grace period normally runs for a maximum of 60 days. After the grace period is over, there are thirty days redemption period however not all domains make it to this period. Once the redemption period is over that domain name takes five days to be deleted from the registry database record. Now you can register the domain name once the deletion period is complete!

Who first described 1p36 deletion syndrome?
Q. Chromosome 1p36 deletion syndrome can also be called "monosomy 1p36". Who first described this genetic disorder, and what year? Does this disorder have a common name, for example, like Down Syndrome, Marfan Syndrome, Usher Syndrome?
Asked by Red Dog - Tue Jan 24 17:12:42 2006 - Biology - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Caused by a terminal deletion of the most distal band of the short arm of chromosome 1, monosomy 1p36 is the most commonly observed terminal chromosomal deletion, occurring in approximately 1 in 5,000 births (Shaffer and Lupski 2000; Heilstedt et al. 2003b). As first described by the Shaffer lab in 13 subjects (Shapira et al. 1997), craniofacial characteristics of this contiguous gene deletion syndrome (CGDS)--so-called because it involves the deletion of multiple adjacent genes on the same chromosome arm--include late-closing, large anterior fontanels (membranous intervals at the intersection of the cranial bones at the crown of the skull), brachycephaly (disproportionate shortness of the head), deep-set eyes, flat nasal bridge,… [cont.]

I no longer seem to have the capability to begin typing in a email name and get back the email address.?
Q. When I begin typing in an email name or category in the To:, CC, or BCC areas I used to get a list of names similar or the category or similar category. I may have inadvertently lost this ability through cookie deletion. How do I get this capability back. Thanks for your help, Joe

A. Many people have been having the same problem for over a week. I assume it is something Yahoo is currently working on. There seems to be no problem in All-New and Beta, only Classic. NS Y Rk Raq NS Tuesday, January 18, 2011
